KLONDYKE NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
Welcome to the Klondyke Neighbourhood Watch Website
located in the Town of Methil, in Fife, Scotland.
Located on the North bank of the River Forth, Methil was an important Coal Mining Community and Seaport, with the World War 2 Arctic Convoys assembling offshore in the shelter of Largo Bay.
Other industries included a Steel Foundry and several Engineering and Chemical works which unfortunately are, in the words of The Proclaimers’ hit song Letter from America -- “Methil no More”
With high unemployment in the surrounding area, crime and antisocial behaviour (often related to drugs) has been a rising problem over the past few decades. Together with the neighbouring towns and villages of East Wemyss, Coaltown of Wemyss, West Wemyss, Buckhaven, Leven, Windygates, Upper Largo, Lower Largo, Lundin Links and Kennoway, the community totals circa 35,000 residents who are served by the Police Station (Levenmouth) located within the Klondyke NW Area at Methil.
Q. Why Klondyke as a name for the Watch?
A. The Watch covers 4 Different named Streets, which were built on the site of the former Klondyke
Coal Mine. The name seemed appropriate.
Fife Council refer to the overall community as “Levenmouth” and the Levenmouth Neighbourhood Watch Association meets every two months at “Levenmouth” Police Station.
Members of the Klondyke NW are officials in the Levenmouth Association, the Fife Association and the Association of Scottish Neighbourhood Watches. These members promote Neighbourhood Watch at various Local Galas and Fetes, are representatives at the Local Community Forum and part of the Tenants and Residents Association.
The aim of the Watch is to reduce Crime (and the Fear of Crime) within the Community by educating the public in Crime Prevention Methods and ensuring that Police Alerts are speedily issued to all members.
This in turn creates a greater Community Spirit and a better interaction between all members of the community irrespective of age, gender, ethnic origin or religion.
This website has been constructed to give our members a point of contact for information and advice which may also be helpful to other members of the public whether within our Town, County, Country or from overseas.
We hope you find something of interest in these pages.
